Opening of the new innovative business park Tech Lane Ghent

Alinso Group cooperate with various public partners on the development of the Ghent business park Eiland Zwijnaarde.  It is located in Tech Lane Ghent, the innovative zone in the south of Ghent. The 35-hectare park will be the home base for companies specialising in the knowledge economy, logistics and water-based distribution. The festive delivery of the infrastructure at the business park heralded the official opening of the ambitious park.

Room for the knowledge economy and logistics to do business

The business park offers room for two main activities.

Seventeen hectares is reserved for the high-quality knowledge economy, providing opportunities for knowledge-intensive tech companies, including in the areas of biotech, cleantech and healthtech. This gives Ghent an even stronger position in these cutting-edge sectors. Part of the business park has entered into an alliance agreement with Ghent University to work together on this.

Technology hubs are established around strong universities. Innovative ideas arise where innovative people meet. We are pleased to see that Ghent, with its many start-ups, is an excellent example of this. Meanwhile many of the Ghent start-ups have acquired international leadership. The Eiland Zwijnaarde is completely surrounded by greenery and water and has excellent access, right on the outskirts of the city and close to the UGent technology campus and is thus an inspiring working environment for start-ups and scale-ups. ” says Ivan Lokere, CEO of Alinso Group.

Eighteen hectares are being provided for logistics and distribution companies that will take maximum advantage of the inland waterway transport. The park is targeting international water-based companies who are focused on the logistics of the future. To facilitate the operations, on the western side of the business park an industrial waterfront is being developed with quays along the Upper Scheldt, providing the inland waterway transport with a major impetus. All freight that can be transported via the waterway can stay off the road.

"Tech Lane Ghent is a strategically interesting location," says Dominique Van Hecke, Managing Director of De Vlaamse Waterweg. “The companies that settle here can enjoy all the assets that the waterway has to offer them. In terms of mobility, inland shipping is a fully-fledged alternative to road transport. The site and its environment are being further developed for the future, whereby multiple functions are immediately included "

The business park of the future: multimodal, sustainable and accessible to all.

The sustainable business park measures 35 hectares. A major asset is the strategic location: next to the E40, with a direct connection to the R4 and immediate access to the Upper Scheldt river. The park can accommodate knowledge businesses from the start-up stage. Smart and innovative international water-based companies are also being attracted and will provide the logistics of the future. On the western side of the business park there will be an industrial waterfront development with quays along the Scheldt river.

The visionary knowledge companies will establish themselves in a green campus climate where co-creation and joint infrastructure take centre stage.

The opening of the new business park heralds a new stage in the ambitious project. The Flemish government Agency for Roads and Traffic recently extended the R4 and constructed the corresponding slip roads on the Eiland. Eiland Zwijnaarde and De Vlaamse Waterweg companies worked on realising the infrastructure, which will open up various parts of the business park, and on landscaping the riverbank along the old tidal estuary of the Scheldt with green hiking and cycling paths.

Sustainable asset

This new business park is being developed according to progressive international standards. All partners share the same ambitions when it comes to the visual quality of the architecture, energy requirements, sustainability, and ecosystem. It will become an appealing working environment where there is a strong focus on joint facilities and on supporting the partnerships among businesses.
